Canara Bank fetes women achievers

Mysore :

Canara Bank celebrated International Women’s Day in a befitting manner by providing stalls for exhibiting and selling hand-craft arts and other products prepared / manufactured women entrepreneurs / artisans at Jaganmohan Palace, Mysore, which is kept open for the public from 10 am to 5 pm today.

Besides, the Bank had also invited women entrepreneurs, artisans, self help group members to participate in the event.

Dr. S. T. Ramachandra, Deputy General Manager, Canara Bank, Circle Office Mysore, in his address said that, women clan is a force to reckon with in all walks of life and they deserve better deal for all the contributions and sacrifice made to this society. He highlighted some of the initiatives of the Bank to this sector:

1. Micro insurance, wherein at Rs. 100 per annum risk coverage of Rs. 30000; 2. Swavalamban Pension Scheme for Government of India with special focus on SHGs; 3. 0.5% rebate for women entrepreneurs under MSE segment; 4. 0.5% rebate for Girl Students under Education Loan; 5. Separate Cell called “Centre for Entrepreneurship Development for Women” to impart training and create self employment opportunity for women.

On the occasion, the Bank also honoured prominent personalities, who have contributed to the society in their own way:

Dr. H. R. Manikarnika – a senior eye specialist; Hemamalini Krupakar – A special educator with Ph.D and MS in Counseling and Psychotherapy; B. S. Indira – who suffered a major bone fracture at the age of 26 and started leading her own life getting a job in the industry; Shivaranjani – honest home guard.

Chief guest Dr. Kavitha Rai, Associate Professor, Kannada Study and Research Centre, KSOU, called upon the womenfolk to come forward and involve themselves in all walks of life for the betterment of the society. K. M. Sathiyanathan, Asst. Geneneral Manager and T. Lalitha, Chief Manager of Canara Bank, Mandya Branch were the other guests on the dais.

Gayathri welcomed. Vanitha Gadiyar proposed a vote of thanks. Divakar Shetty, Asst. General Manager, Canara Bank, Circle Office, co-ordinated the programme.
