Dasara Wrestling Championship : Patil of KSP wins ‘Dasara Kanteerava’ title

Mysore :

In a keen tussle for supremacy with a large number of fans cheering, M.Y. Patil of Karnataka State Police (KSP) hogged the limelight when he beat S.D. Mane of Mudhol to clinch the coveted 74kg plus category title ‘Dasara Kanteerava’ in the State-level wrestling competition held at D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose wrestling arena at Doddakere Maidan here on Wednesday.

L.M. Yallashetty of KSP Davanagere and Panduranga Shinde secured third places in 75kg plus category. The winner M. Y. Patil was presented with a silver mace and the title.

Karthik Kate of Davanagere won the ‘Dasara Kesari’ 74kg title. In the title bout, he outsmarted the challenge put up by M. Basappa of Belgaum who took the second place. K. Panduranga (MEG, Bangalore) and Shivaji Redekar (Belgaum) took the third places.

Satish Padthare of STC, Dharwad beat Rafiq Holi of Davanagere to clinch the ‘Dasara Kumar’ 70kg title. Y. Gurulinga of Muddol and Gopal Koli of MEG, Banga- lore secured third.

M. Nagaraj of MEG, Bangalore won the coveted ‘Dasara Kishore’ 61kg title. He beat Raju Hoskote of STC, Dharwad in the final. Siddu Hossamani (MEG) and Vishnu Kumar (Sports Hostel, Davanagere) secured the third places.

The winners in the Dasara Kanteerava, Dasara Kesari, Dasara Kumar and Dasara Kishore were presented with a silver mace each and also conferred with the title.

Men’s section: In the all-India competitions which concluded on Tuesday, S.D. Mane (Karnataka-Plus 97kg), Prakash Yaragatti (97 kg-MLIRC), Pandurang Shinde (Karnataka-86kg), Sandeep Sharma (KVS, Bangalore-74kg), Siddanna Patil (MEG-70kg), M. Nagaraj (MEG-61kg) and Pankaj (MEG-57kg) won the titles.

Women’s section

In the all-India women’s section, Reshma Mane (Kholapur-75kg), Anushree (Alvas, Mangalore-63kg), Atmashree (Alvas, M’lore-60kg) and Rita Priyanka (Mysore-58kg) emerged winners.

Reshma Mane of Kholapur was adjudged the Best National Women’s Wrestler while Pankaj of MEG was adjudged as the Best Wrestler in Men’s Section. Basheera of Gadag was adjudged the Best State Women Wrestler.

The prizes were given away by B. K. Singh, IGP, Vikram Amte (DSP), Dhruvakumar, former Mayor and Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee office-bearers.
